  • Shirley Watts Close-up

    The Shirely Watts Trophy is awarded to the magician with the best close-up act.

    Entrants perform magic in front of an intimate public audience where a panel of judges, made up of a combination of experts and laymen, decide on the winner.

    Participants have between 4 & 8 minutes to perform. Then the judges decide on the winner.

  • Connolly Shield

    The Connolly Shield is awarded for stage magic.

    Magicians perform in front of a live audience made up by the public to demonstrate their tricks & illusions. Performers have 10 minutes to wow a combination of experts & laymen judges who decide on the winner.

    A special guest performer then entertains before the winner is announced.

  • Bob Moore Comedy Trophy

    Dedicated to former member Bob Moore, the comedy competition is held at the last meeting of the year to form part of our Christmas celebrations.

    Each entrant has 5 minutes to present their comical acts & the winner is decided via an audience vote.

  • Simpson Shield

    The Simpson Shield is Hull Magicians’ Circle’s annual themed magic competition, held during club nights throughout the year in Hull, East Yorkshire. The competition comprises six themed heats, in which members perform magic around a creative theme. Previous themes have included “A Trick from the Bathroom” and “A Trick from the Library.”

    At each heat, winners are decided by an audience vote from fellow members, with points awarded accordingly. The magician who accumulates the most points across the six heats is crowned the Simpson Shield Champion.

  • Maskelyne Wand

    The Maskelyne Wand is awarded to the winner of the Pocket Trick Drive, held at the first Hull Magicians’ Circle meeting of the year in Hull, East Yorkshire. In this fun and creative competition, members perform a magic trick that fits entirely in their pocket.

    Members vote for their favourite performance, and the winning magician is presented with the Maskelyne Wand trophy, starting the year’s programme of magic competitions at Hull Magicians’ Circle.

  • The Eddie Dawes President’s Award

    The Eddie Dawes President’s Award is presented by Hull Magicians’ Circle to recognise outstanding contributions and dedication to the society. Named in honour of Eddie Dawes, who served as President of Hull Magicians’ Circle from 1965 to 2023, the award celebrates individuals who have made a significant impact on the club and the wider magic community.

    Eddie Dawes was internationally respected as a magical historian, author, and performer, and his lifelong commitment to the art of magic and to Hull Magicians’ Circle helped shape the club into the thriving magic society it is today.

    This award commemorates the many years of service given by Eddie and Amy Dawes and is presented to a worthy recipient who has shown exceptional support, dedication, and contribution to Hull Magicians’ Circle.
